The Contribution of Council House Allocation to West Indian Desegregation in London, 1961-71

Analysis of special tabulations of the 1971 census for the Greater London Council area indicates that the allocation of council housing had the main effect of re-sorting the West Indian population within the boroughs of high concentration rather than redistributing them between the areas of high and low concentration. While, so far, research effort has highlighted the discrimination in the type of housing allocated, this problem may be remedied without the other major problem of where immigrants are given housing being touched.
